ACP Sheets – Types, Installation, Advantages, Disadvantages & Uses

What Are ACP Sheets?

The full form of the ACP sheet is Aluminium composite panel sheet. It is made of aluminium composite material (ACM), which comprises two thin coated aluminium sheets.

It performs better in terms of the advantages and disadvantages of the new material since it is made up of two different components, metal and non-metal, as aluminium is metal and polyethylene plastic is non-metal.

Aluminium Composite Panel (ACP Sheets) is a modern material used for the exteriors, interiors, and signage of architectural buildings.

Aluminium Panels are available in various colors and treatments, including wood, stone, sparkle, gloss, pebbles, and more. ACP Sheets provide the versatility and character you require.

This user-friendly material can be twisted, folded, and molded into shapes that no other material can achieve. ACP sheets are developed after numerous quality testing.

Types Of ACP Sheets

ACP sheets are split into two types based on their usage and fire rating regulations.

  1. Non-fire rated grade
  2. Fire-rated grade

1. Non-fire-rated ACP Sheet

Aluminum composite panels are made up of two thin layers of aluminium sheets sandwiched by a polymer core. ACP sheet’s polymer core is made of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) or Polyurethane.

These sheets are flammable and may catch fire; hence, they are classified as non-fire-rated ACP sheets. The use of these sheets is restricted based on the fire rating.

2. Fire-rated ACP Sheets

Depending on the core composition, fire-rated ACP can withstand fire for up to 2 hours. The primary distinction between fire-rated ACP sheets and standard ACP sheets is found in the core components.

The core of the standard ACP is constructed of LDPE/HDPE, whereas the core of the fire-rated ACP is made of a specifically formulated fire-resistant material.

For enhanced fire retardant qualities, magnesium hydroxide is employed as a core. As the name suggests, Fire Grade Aluminium Composite Panels have the unique ability to endure extreme temperatures.

Advantages Of ACP Sheets

Aluminium composite panels have numerous advantages over other materials on the market due to their simplicity of use and versatility. The following are some of the significant benefits:

1. Durability: ACP cladding sheets are weatherproof, stain-resistant, and extremely long-lasting. The panels retain their color, form, and size even after being exposed to sunshine and weather changes, making them suitable for all seasons. They are also soundproof, allowing sound to be deducted from the surrounding environment.

2. Safety: Because aluminium is an excellent heat insulator, ACP panels are fire-resistant. They do not emit gases or fumes, making them suitable for inside cladding.

3. Low-cost: ACP is one of the most cost-effective and economical materials in the market. They are easily accessible and long-lasting, making them ideal for business establishments.

ACP sheets, according to experts, give high-quality thermal comfort while minimizing energy consumption and, as a result, your electricity bills. They may be used in various forms and sizes, reducing waste.

4. Ease of installation: The ACP cladding sheets are simple to install and require little effort. They can make astonishing designs that are either difficult or impossible to replicate with other materials.

5. Low Maintenance: ACP cladding sheets require little to no maintenance and retain their shape and texture for an extended period. The dirt or dust particles on its surface can be removed with a simple wipe with a towel.

6. Adaptability: The ACP sheets can be cut into various sizes according to your needs, giving significant material adaptability.

7. Sound and Thermal Insulation: Thermal and sound insulation are excellent with aluminium composite panels.

8. Weather and UV Resistance: They are also resistant to weather and UV rays.

9. Lightweight: ACP is lighter in weight than steel and other building materials. With wide spans and large areas involved, this dramatically reduces the design loads on the structure.

ACP sheets are lightweight and simple to lift and erect. This, in turn, minimizes labor and construction costs while keeping the project on track.

Disadvantages Of ACP Sheets

During severe weather, such as storms and hurricanes, aluminium composite panels are prone to dents. To address this issue, ACP manufacturers are investing in creating panels with specific threads that can survive such temperatures.

This is not a drawback, but it is something that producers should be aware of. All of the panels should be thoroughly sealed and waterproofed to prevent water from leaking into the building,

ACP Sheet Installation

ACP sheets are used for coating and developing exterior and interior construction covering materials. Numerous advanced installation methods may be used to ensure these sheets’ proper fitting and application to the structure. Some examples are as follows:

1. Wet Sealant Joint

One of the most typical ways to install ACP sheets is with a Wet Sealant Joint. The system has tray–style panels and joint seals.

The ACP sheet is first secured to the substructure beneath this system. The joints are then sealed with an appropriate sealing substance, which guarantees that the panels are watertight.

2. Hanging Method

The Hanging Method is yet another installation method. As the name implies, panels used in this approach are not properly secured and hang from the subframe.

This installation technique is effortless and requires very little time, and the panels are given ample area to expand and shrink in response to the weather.

3. Dry Gasket Joint

Instead of sealant, the gasket is used to install the ACP sheet in the Dry Gasket Joint Method. The surfaces of Aluminum Composite Panels with sealant in the joints are susceptible to discoloration and grime.

This strategy, however, solves the preceding difficulty. Gaskets, like sealants, are long-lasting and can thus be used to install ACP sheets efficiently.

4. Narrow Open Joint

The Narrow Open Joint Method links stone and wood patterned aluminium composite panels. Because small joints provide such panels with an appealing appearance, this procedure is ideal for them. EPDM gaskets or sealants may be used in joints depending on the situation.

Applications Of ACP Sheets

The following are the applications for ACP sheets:

Cladding: Cladding is the process of covering the outside of a building with a substance. Before introducing the ACP, paint was the primary substance used to enhance the appearance of a building’s façade.

With the availability of ACP sheets, the reliance on paint for building façades has decreased. Because ACP sheets are lightweight, quick to install, weather-resistant, pollution and corrosion-resistant, fireproof, and simple to maintain, they are frequently used as cladding materials.

For Home Interiors: ACP sheets are a popular choice for home interiors. They are used for cabinets and trolleys in household kitchens.

Many homeowners have also used the sheets as part of the false ceiling in their bathroom ceilings. Many passionate homeowners have put aluminium panels on their wardrobes as well.

For Commercial Spaces: ACP sheets are far more commonly used in business areas, and they are employed not only on the outside but also on signage and display panels. Logos and initials are also cut out of these sheets, giving the nameplate a beautiful look.

Signage: ACP sheet may be used to create a variety of outdoor signage. Because signage and hoardings are used for displaying outside, where they must survive temperature changes and the influence of harsh weather, ACP is the best material for this use.

Partitions: Most office complexes these days expect to maximize available floor space utilization. To accomplish this, they create private dividers that generate separate spaces.

ACP Panels are a common material used in the construction of these partitions. Again, due to the ease of handling and support, ACP is one of the best materials for creating obstructions.

If you want to get rid of the idea of retaining partitions and increasing the space, it is simple to accomplish; remove the rivets or screws and move them to anywhere you want.

ACP is also less expensive than other alternatives, and because of these advantages, it is commonly employed in the building industry.

Cleaning And Upkeep Of ACP Sheets

  • Use a mild, regular detergent.
  • All cleaning procedures must be followed by a rinse with clean water.
  • Using a sponge or other absorbent substance, drive the panel to avoid strain.

Conclusion

ACP Panel now dominates the façade market while allowing for some artistic freedom. It is a designer’s dream, adding a modern and elegant touch to any environment. They are cost-effective, environmentally beneficial, and exciting materials to transform interior design.
