What Is Flush Door?

Flush doors are streamlined interior and exterior doors with plain facings on both sides. While this type of door is more closely associated with function than style, it lends itself well to various room designs that highlight other elements in the space.

This type of door could have a solid or hollow core. A typical flush door has two plywood pieces attached to each side of a frame.

Even though the interior of the door is hollow, it is not uncommon for some form of support, such as a honeycomb support system, to connect to the frame.

The plywood can be stained or finished to highlight the wood grain. Following the completion of the door construction, the finish is a seal to prevent damage to the color or stain.

These doors can be used in residential and public buildings. This door is ideal for areas with a requirement for light and cross ventilation in the rooms.

Types Of Flush Doors

1. Solid Core Flush Door

The solid core flush door is trendy, and it is also known as a laminated flush door. These panels are particleboard, laminated core, cross-band, face wood veneer, blackboard, and other materials.

These doors should have stiles, top, and bottom rails, and be at least 5 – 10 cm wide. This type of door also has sound-insulating properties.

These doors have a timber wood frame, and hardwood polishing is applied around the framing to increase the strength and durability of the door.

Solid-core flush doors prepare by pressing flat papers and resins that cover the door’s surface and are reinforced by kiln-seasoned, composite solid fillers that fit tightly within the door.

These rectangular wood fillers or blocks lack interstitial space for water storage. Because laminates are artificial materials, decorative patterns or colors can create on the door’s surface, and their durability ensures that the doors last a long time. 

The width of the wood polishing should be equal to the core thickness. These are stronger and more stable due to their increased strength and stability.

The frame comprises stiles, top, intermediate, and bottom rails, and wooden battens attached to the rails to cover spaces/gaps between stiles and rails.

This door’s plywood thickness should always be greater than 6 mm. Plywood sheets and face veneers bonded to the core under pressure.

These doors are lighter than other types, but they are not as strong as solid core flush doors. On the market, hollow-core flush doors cost between Rs- 180 and 200 per square foot.

The thickness of the plywood sheet in this type of door must always be greater than 3mm. Because they have been chemically treated and vacuum-pressed, these doors are heat and water-resistant.
